7th grader, Lainey, has diabetes. She’s had a couple scary moments at school when her blood glucose got too high.
Ketone stripes are used to check blood glucose. The school’s budget does not allow them to keep strips on hand. They rely on parents to provide the strips.
Lainey’s family, in and out of homeless shelters, does not have money for strips. If Lainey’s glucose levels are too high, it can become a matter of life and death.
Lainey’s school nurse reached out to the Foundation. We provided enough ketone strips to last the rest of the school year and gave Lainey – and everyone who cares for her – peace of mind.
